Programmes that re-cap after every ad break

I enjoyed watching The Secret Shopper with Mary Portas last week - very inspiring and an interesting programme concept. But why is it with commercial documentary programmes that they insist on recapping on the 'story so far' after every 15 minutes. Do they really think that we are not capable of remembering the programme we are watching? Is it for the benefit of channel hoppers just joining the show? Well too bad. I've sat through 5 minutes of adverts (well maybe ffwd if on sky+) but nonetheless, don’t punish the normal viewer and make us turn off because you patronise us with this repetition of detail, pleeeeease.
